SAMHSA – Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration
Session 1 of the Federal Agency Series
In this session, we will educate the participants in the core mission, principles, and strategic priorities the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration works by, their budget, and what that budget aims to address in national priorities. We’ll then discuss the different centers which administer these different opportunities, including the financial information about each of these centers, block grants, and discretionary grants. This session will also cover the core elements of SAMHSA grant applications and how to respond competitively to them based on the agency’s mission, priorities, and core principles.

Federal Agency Series
The Federal Agency series is designed for grant professionals who are learning about federal grants for the first time, as well as people who have written federal grants but who’ve never really dug into the background information, the strategic plan, and the true mission of federal agencies. That is a deeper level of research on each of these agencies than the average grant writer has had time to do.
The intent of this series is to get to know all of these agencies on that deeper level, in the same way, that, as grant professionals, we often do with foundations when we research their mission, strategic plan, theory of change, and what other grants they have awarded in the past. In comparison, the federal government can almost overwhelm us with information, and it can be difficult to sift through it all. Assel Grant Services is going to do that for you in a one-hour webinar, going over each of these key elements.
This series is not designed as a deep dive into a particular grant opportunity offered by the agency. It is designed to give you deep background information about these federal agencies as funders and what their priorities are before you even look at their grant opportunities.
