Whether you are meeting a short deadline to fund a specific initiative or working toward funding a long-range mission, bring our team in at any stage to support your organization with our ongoing or a-la-carte grant writing services.

Experts & Support Improve Your Grant Outcomes
Assel Grant Services has several Grant Professional Certified (GPC) writers and a staff of detail-oriented researchers who supports improving your current grant application output, creating new capacity for your organization, and improving your funding outcomes.

We are equipped to coach hospital and behavioral health administrators and development staff at your organization on relevant trends and best practices in grantsmanship through individual coaching and small or large group workshops.

Assel Grant Services team members have provided trainings on behalf of Nonprofit Connect, nationally, regionally and locally for the Grant Professionals Association, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Plus, we offer both informational in-person and online trainings so you can add to your knowledge of the healthcare grant space.

A Scalable Approach Designed to Meet You Where You Are
Our scalable approach to grant development supports your healthcare organization, regardless of your size and capacity.

We work with hospitals and behavioral health organizations, including Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) and Certified Community Behavioral Healthcare Clinics (CCBHC) that have a variety of development capacities, including:

  • Those that have a full-time grant writer who need assistance (ongoing or periodic) with overflow work
  • Those that have a development director who oversees all fundraising and doesn’t have the time to implement a comprehensive grant program
  • Those that have a development professional on medical/personal leave or are between development professionals that need temporary grant writing support to ensure continuity of revenue sources in the interim
  • Those with a President/CEO and no development staff

To best coordinate with your organization’s preferred grant development model, our healthcare grant writing team has experience in the following development models:

Advancement Model – Working with development directors to meet institutional fundraising goals by developing annual grant revenue streams.

Academic Model – Working with faculty and / or the academic administration to support patient-oriented initiatives as well as community outreach initiatives.

Research Model – Working with specific departments to support the interests of individual medical professionals.

Serving Your Healthcare Organization’s Needs Beginning to End to Position You for Success
Assel Grant Services has built quality relationships with both large and small organizations and with the agencies that fund them. Our experienced staff can ensure the foundations you apply to align with your mission and program. We:

  • Meet with staff and key leaders to perform a thorough review of the organization’s programs, policies, budgets, needs, and strategic plan
  • Ask open-ended and thoughtful questions to get to know, understand, and even help direct, your grant strategy
  • Help compile or create a portfolio of documents and attachments funders most often require
  • Train boards and staff on best practices for seeking, administering, and reporting on grants

Developing Your Case Statement

As many healthcare organizations, including FQHC and CCBHC, look to diversify their revenue streams, they find themselves needing to communicate about their organizations with multiple funders. Creating a comprehensive case statement with high-quality language about your organization and programs is key to efficiency, helping you avoid starting from scratch every time you begin writing a proposal.

Our writers will create a comprehensive case statement for your organization and key programs. For organizations located in Kansas City, this step of the process may also include the creation of a Donor Edge profile with the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. Other organizations may be interested in a Guidestar Nonprofit profile.

Researching, Qualifying, and Developing a Grant Calendar

Research funders that have supported similar types of healthcare organizations and programs as well as identify promising new prospects based upon location, funding interest, target population, type of giving, and whether the funder is accepting applications.

  • Assign each funding opportunity a quality match rating of 1-5, with 5 being the strongest opportunity
  • Create a grant calendar, beginning with your current funders and the highest-ranked potential funders with hard deadlines
  • Provide regular monitoring of new opportunities, ensuring you are up-to-date on developing funding opportunities

Preparing and Submitting Grant Proposal

  • Work with your staff to plan and develop proposals for submission in response to funder requests for proposals
  • Work with your staff to gather accurate information about current and proposed programming and create or critique logic models and outcome language to help strengthen proposals
  • Work with finance departments to clarify allowable costs and to develop spreadsheets with pre-assigned formulas to facilitate budgets, including multi-year budgets and budgets with allowable indirect costs
  • Prepare federal forms and application packages for grants.gov’s Workspace, NSF’s FastLane, and NIH’s eRA Commons
  • Work with the government agencies’ many partners to provide high-quality individualized letters of commitment for partnership proposals

Managing Grant Reporting

Good reporting is critical to maintaining strong relationships with funders. We keep track of report deadlines, assist you in setting up tracking systems for your program’s outcomes, and write the required reports for both government grants and foundation grants.
