09 Oct Wichita Children’s Home Receives $250,000 Grant from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Wichita Children’s Home (WCH) was recently awarded a $250,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support their Transitional Living Project (TLP).
Funding from the grant will provide ten transitional living beds and supportive services to runaway and homeless youth (RHY) ages 16-under 22 in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas.
The Transitional Living Project uses Positive Youth Development, Trauma-Informed Care, and evidence-based and -informed practices. The project provides shelter and services that promote a safe transition to self-sufficient living and prevent long-term dependence on social services. The TLP ensures youth have a sense of social and emotional well-being, have opportunities to develop permanent connections, attain educational and employment goals, and establish and maintain safe and stable housing so that they can establish sustainable living and well-being, and if applicable, their dependent child(ren).
WCH has a long history of addressing the needs of abused, neglected, abandoned, runaway, homeless, exploited, and trafficked children and youth through a broad spectrum of collaborative and targeted services. WCH is an active participant in the Wichita-Sedgwick County Continuum of Care (CoC) and facilitates the Youth Workgroup developing our community’s strategic response to youth homelessness.
