Te Deum Receives $2,300 Grant from ArtsKC

Te Deum was recently awarded a $2,300 grant from ArtsKC to provide mission support.

Support for Te Deum’s mission will help the agency continue providing high-quality choral concerts that connect with audience members in unique and personal ways and educate audience members. Te Deum sustains the region’s vibrant arts ecology by providing area choral artists a place to express their desire to make beautiful music. Many of Te Deum’s singers are music teachers at the elementary school, middle school, high school, and college levels. These teachers not only bring their own artistic refinement and energy to the ensembles, but also take lessons learned in rehearsals and performances back to their classrooms to help develop the next generation of choral artists in the Kansas City area. Te Deum offers high-quality singers a place to practice their craft and stay artistically active while forming professional and personal connections with other singers.

Te Deum’s concerts meet community needs both for audiences, for the artistic community in general, and for choral artists. Kansas City area audiences need to connect with art on a personal level to be truly engaged in the arts. Te Deum Chamber Choir facilitates this connection with concerts that are structured in the context of a relevant theme. Te Deum Antiqua fills community needs by allowing audiences to experience early music as it would have been presented during early music periods, fostering an appreciation for those foundational techniques. Overall, Te Deum fills a general arts community need by increasing collaboration with other community arts agencies like the Kansas City Baroque Consortium and Friends of Chamber Music. Te Deum also fills a need on the part of the agency’s singers. Te Deum offers talented choral musicians a place to make beautiful music and stay artistically active while enhancing their professional and personal networks with other musicians.

Te Deum was founded in 2008. We are a choral arts organization, with two ensembles consisting of some of the Kansas City area’s finest vocal musicians. The Chamber Choir, our original ensemble, performs a diverse repertoire of sacred choral music in a uniquely relevant context to create stirring and inspiring performances. Antiqua, which was created in 2013, is devoted to early choral music, and uses historically informed literature and performance techniques to provide historically accurate performances.
