27 May Susan G. Komen Foundation Awards $74,910 Grant to the Mercy Health Foundation Oklahoma City
Mercy Health Foundation Oklahoma City was recently awarded a $74,910 grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation to support screening and diagnostic breast services, biopsies, MRIs, and specialist appointments to 420 women over 12 months.
Project Early Detection (PED) aims to reduce breast cancer mortality rates through early detection and minimize the time between diagnosis and treatment. 100% of women with an abnormal mammogram will receive navigation services, and 95% of PED clients with an abnormal mammogram will have a biopsy within 10 business days as indicated by data entered into the electronic health record, an increase from the current rate of 76%.
Mercy partners with the Health Alliance for the Uninsured to reach the most vulnerable women in Oklahoma County. Our strategic focus is to engage African American and Hispanic/Latino women aged 40-65 in PED. PED provides high-risk women with free screening and diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, risk assessments, genetic counseling, and navigation/educational services, providing translators as needed.
Mercy Health Foundation Oklahoma City was formed in 2001 as the philanthropic arm of Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City. The Sisters of Mercy founded the Mercy Health System, and the Foundation reflects this mission: “As the Sisters of Mercy before us, we bring to life the healing ministry of Jesus through our compassionate care and exceptional service.” Through this mission, we work diligently to pursue our ministry’s vision to pioneer a new model of care and deliver a transformative health care experience, while also demonstrating values founded on dignity, justice, service, excellence, stewardship, and charism.
