reStart, Inc. recently received a grant for $137,300 from the Kansas City Consolidated Plan Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to move homeless and chronically homeless persons off the streets and into emergency shelter or permanent housing and to provide assistance and support to prevent future homelessness.
Funding from the Kansas City Consolidated Plan CDBG will support the salary and benefits of two case managers/outreach specialists.
Homeless and runaway youth are particularly vulnerable to sexual exploitation and human trafficking. reStart’s emergency shelter programs and Housing Solutions Center provide critical outreach, financial assistance, and wraparound supports and resources to address these issues and get clients into sustainable permanent housing. reStart’s Family Shelter provides shelter and food and offers a wide range of supportive services, including individualized case management to help each family develop specific, personalized goals and action steps to lead them to self-sufficiency; employment and on-the-job training; housing assistance, life skills and financial literacy classes; mental health screenings; individual, family, and child therapy; substance abuse recovery services; health and nutritional education and screenings; art therapy and arts activities; and family field trips and educational activities.
reStart’s mission is “to provide shelter and supportive services to help move homeless men, women, unaccompanied youth, and families toward independence and self-sufficiency with the goal of ending homelessness in our community.” We support clients with wraparound services onsite to help clients increase skills and income, improve self-sufficiency, and achieve and sustain permanent housing. We achieve our mission through strengths-based case management, mental health assessments and therapy, housing and employment assistance, substance abuse education and treatment, health and wellness programming, job skills and life skills classes, parenting and recovery groups, arts programs, and children’s programs.
