Mid-America Regional Council Awards $34,980 Grant to Comprehensive Mental Health Services (CMHS)

Comprehensive Mental Health Services (CMHS) recently received a grant for $34,980 from the Mid-America Regional Council to deliver mental health services to the elderly residents of northeast Jackson County, Missouri.

CMHS will address critical mental health issues of elderly individuals through the following services:

  • Mental health evaluation and assessment;
  • Individual therapy;
  • Group therapy;
  • Case management;
  • Information and education services; and
  • Community support services.

CMHS is licensed by the State of Missouri and accredited by CARF (Council on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities). Currently, CMHS provides these services through the Elder Services Program, which itself is part of the Outpatient Counseling Department and Adult Community Support Services. With MARC’s renewed support, CMHS will continue to provide services to the under-served elderly population in northeastern Jackson County through this highly effective program, including evaluation and assessment, individual and group therapies, case management, information and educational services, and community support. The Elder Services Program staff will effectively address critical mental health issues affecting elderly individuals, including (but not limited to) coping with loss and bereavement, chronic illness, depression, and suicidal ideation. By addressing these and other issues, CMHS will improve mental health outcomes, and overall quality of life, for elderly residents of northeastern Jackson County.

CMHS has provided mental health services to all residents, including the elderly, in northeastern Jackson County for over 40 years. The agency provides mental health services that are focused on the specific needs of the individual receiving services. CMHS assists clients in defining their own individual goals, and provides treatment to help clients achieve those goals. CMHS designs its services to maximize each client’s personal strengths while minimizing adverse behaviors and functional challenges.
