Grant 301: Relationships: It is a Two-Way Street
Session 1 of the Grants 301 Series
Sometimes it seems easier to avoid conflict and focus on the future. This session will teach you how to appropriately engage with funders to overcome past missteps and/or prepare for the most efficient initial contact. Fund-seekers are vetting funders at the same time the funders are vetting the potential applicants. What red flags should each party look out for that can be mitigated through upfront candidness and transparency during preliminary meetings? Finally, this session will prepare you for the site visit/exploratory meeting that takes an unexpected turn. For example, what if the program officer throws you a curve and asks you to brainstorm or strategize beyond the scope you came prepared to discuss. This funder may also utilize this meeting to ask you for contextual information about the subject area that your program addresses and may ask you about other agencies that work in the same space. Fund-seekers need to be able to think on their feet.
