With the increasing availability of government grant money, many organizations are trying to figure out how to move along the grant readiness continuum to be more prepared to manage government grants (especially federal grants) after they have been awarded. This session will explain best practices in post-award grants management based on federal grant compliance, but with an eye on gradually transitioning from managing foundation and corporate grant awards to simple and complex federal grant projects.
Participants will learn about the following common compliance elements and methods to manage them:
CEUs
This training aligns with the Grant Professional Certification Institute’s Competencies and Skills and will be approved for 1.0 Continuing Education Unit (CEU). This training will also be approved for 1.0 points in Category 1.B – Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.
Julie Assel, CGMS, GPC
President and CEO, Assel Grant Services
Julie Assel is President and CEO of Assel Grant Services, a professional grant services firm she founded in 2007. She has over twenty years of experience in prospect research, proposal writing, and grant management. She is one of less than 450 grant professionals who hold the Grant Professionals Certified credential through the Grant Professionals Certification Institute, and one of only fifty GPCs who are also Approved Trainers through the Grant Professionals Association. Julie manages a deep training portfolio of over forty different training sessions annually through Assel Grant Services’ professional development programs. Her current portfolio includes training series on federal grants, grants and ethics, basic grant training, and more advanced topics related to grants. In addition to speaking at Grant Professional Association and Association of Fundraising Professionals chapter trainings, regional conferences, and national conferences, Julie also provides live and webinar trainings upon request to targeted audiences and the broader nonprofit field.

Tammy Tilzey is the Client Marketing Manager – Nonprofits, which encompasses intuitive grant management solutions designed to increase the efficiency and funding success of nonprofits. She particularly enjoys working and collaborating with passionate clients and coworkers. Tammy holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from Montana State University and has held development, marketing, and services leadership roles at several growing software companies. In her role at Foundant Technologies, Tammy is able to further our mission to maximize the impact of the philanthropic community. What could be better than that? Tammy serves as membership chair for the Grant Professionals Association’s Idaho Chapter and also serves as Board Secretary for the Grant Professionals Certification Institute (GPCI).
