02 Oct KidsTLC Receives $4,500 Grant from Royals Charities
KidsTLC was recently awarded a $4,500 grant from Royals Charities to support a portion of the costs to purchase and install two sensory walls.
KidsTLC’s Autism Services program opened in 2013 on the second floor of KidsTLC’s Kelly Family Wellness Center. In late 2017, due to the high demand for services, the program expanded into the first floor of the building. Each floor needs to be equipped with a variety of sensory wall panels to accommodate the needs of our young clients. This project will be ongoing, as the sensory walls will be a permanent fixture. These therapeutic tools will allow youth who have issues with sensory processing to experience fine motor, tactile, and visual inputs and will promote self-reliance.
All staff, including the BCBA’s speech and occupational therapists, will use the sensory walls to provide children with sensory exploration, so they can learn to self-regulate sensory issues. Other benefits include: improved mood and behavior, improved language and communication skills, improved use of descriptive language, and improved peer interaction.
KidsTLC provides children with a continuum of care through innovative and successful psychiatric treatment, community outreach, outpatient behavioral health, autism and wellness programs. Services are focused on evidence-based therapies and trauma-informed care, with a strong emphasis on family wellness and preserving the family unit.
KidsTLC continues to respond to the growing needs of children in the Kansas City Metro area by adding critically needed services that fill community gaps and alleviate wait times for families to receive care. Programs help children heal on all levels through innovative therapeutic treatment philosophies; expressive therapies such as art, play and music therapy; and through a wealth of opportunities to improve the physical health of clients including the movement towards integrating our mental health services with local health clinics that provide physical health services, increased nutrition/wellness education, and opportunities for physical exercise.
