29 Jan Jackson County Community Mental Health Fund (JCCMHF) Awards $1,223,950 Grant to Comprehensive Mental Health Services, Inc. (CMHS)

Comprehensive Mental Health Services, Inc. (CMHS) recently received a grant for $1,223,950 from the Jackson County Community Mental Health Fund (JCCMHF) to expand the Health Care Home program to include uninsured/ underinsured individuals whose incomes are 138% of the federal poverty level. CMHS will provide coordinate care so behavioral and primary health care is provided in one cohesive system.

The funding will support a Medicaid Specialist and partial support of a Health Care Home Nurse Manager, Care Coordinator, and Director of Nursing. These individuals provide Medicaid application assistance and mental/physical health care coordination. This funding would also support medical visits, physician consultation, and funding for labs, medications, health supplies, x-rays, etc. to CMHS clients who are uninsured/under-insured. The funds will provide on average, three physical health services consisting of seven appointments over the course of the year to 75 clients.

The purpose of the Health Care Home program is to provide coordinated mental and physical health care for those suffering from mental illness and/or substance abuse in eastern Jackson County.

Comprehensive Mental Health Services (CMHS) began the Health Care Home program is 2012. In 2013, the Health Care Foundation provided a one year grant to help CMHS expand this program to 75 individuals who are not receiving Medicaid or who cannot afford their Medicaid deductibles.

Comprehensive Mental Health Services, Inc. (CMHS) is a community mental health center that provides a safety net of mental health and substance abuse treatment services, prevention education, and integrated mental and primary health services for low income people in Eastern Jackson County and the Urban Core of Kansas City Missouri. CMHS is celebrating its 45th year of serving as the mental health safety net for eastern Jackson County.
