Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI) Receives Grant for $20,000 from the Developmental Disabilities Resource Board of Clay County – Capital Grant Program

Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI) recently received a grant for $20,000 from the Developmental Disabilities Resource Board of Clay County – Capital Grant Program to refurbish the changing rooms that serve the therapeutic pool in the Children’s Center Campus.

Funding will be used to refurbish the changing rooms to minimize safety concerns, such as changing tables that don’t accommodate larger-size children, poor ventilation, and lockers in a state of disrepair that pose potential safety issues to children and therapists alike.

The funding will ensure accessibility for children, regardless of their physical size, to the changing rooms, both prior and after their therapeutic swim sessions.  Funding will support the purchase of two changing tables and one set of lockers.

CCVI is the only program serving our community’s youngest children with blindness and visual impairment. CCVI’s mission is to prepare children with visual impairments, including those with multiple disabilities, to reach their highest potential in the sighted world. The goal is to help children move toward independence and self-reliance. CCVI continually assesses and improves services and seeks to fill gaps in the community that hinder the ability for visually impaired children to be successful in their development and educational careers. CCVI is nationally recognized and accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Blind and Low Vision Services (NAC) for the maximum five years.
