Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI) Receives $10,000 Grant from the American Century Foundation

Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI) was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the American Century Foundation to provide operating support to ensure CCVI can deliver quality programming for children with blindness and visual impairment.

Funding will support education programming for children including: provide operating support to ensure CCVI can deliver quality programming for children with blindness and visual impairment.  Preschool/Kindergarten Program: enhances developmental skills while preparing children for inclusion in public or private elementary schools. Children may attend with the support of their Early Intervention Program (Missouri First Steps), through school district placement, or through private pay from the family.

CCVI’s programs provide individualized educational plans for children in a nurturing environment which addresses their vision needs, their other senses, and all developmental domains. Our ultimate goal is to help children move toward independence and self-reliance.

CCVI is the only center in the Kansas City area that offers specialized instruction and therapy for children with blindness or visual impairment, including those with multiple disabilities, from birth through the age of six. CCVI’s programs help prepare children with blindness or visual impairment for success in the sighted world. CCVI’s unique program model is one of only seven in the country; CCVI is the only agency in the Kansas City metro area providing specialized instruction, therapies, and family counseling and support for children birth to age six. CCVI is nationally recognized and accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Blind and Low Vision Services (NAC).
