Band of Angels Receives $5,000 Grant from the Mader Foundation

Band of Angels recently received a grant for $5,000 from the Edward G. and Kathryn D. Mader Foundation to upgrade instruments for students who have the desire and drive to learn orchestral/band music.

Mader funding will provide upgraded instruments for advancing Band of Angels students as well as new drums and mallets as a one-time surprise donation to the KC Marching Cobras. Cobras members are from economically needy backgrounds, making the donation a match for Band of Angels’ mission.

The Cobras are Kansas City’s most renowned “drill team,” infusing traditional drumline marches with eclectic musical influences. New drums will enhance performances as prolonged use hurts quality.  In addition, new instruments will be provided to qualified students who need developmentally appropriate instruments as they advance in their musical education.

The mission of Band of Angels is helping students find music through the generosity of others.  In so many cases, a child’s family does not have the funds to buy or rent an instrument. Money should never stop a child from pursuing music, so Band of Angels collects used musical instruments and cash donations to purchase instruments and put them in the hands of children who want to study music. All donated instruments are refurbished and restored to playing condition before they are given to a child.
