YMCA of Greater Kansas City Receives Capital Grant for $3,000,000 from the Sunderland Foundation

The YMCA of Greater Kansas City recently received a capital grant for $3,000,000 from the Sunderland Foundation to support the new Downtown YMCA/Kirk Family Community Center.

The development plan for the Downtown YMCA/Kirk Family Community Center is well underway.  This project represents the next chapter of the health and well-being for downtown Kansas City and will allow the Y to continue providing programs and services focused on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

The new Downtown YMCA is consistent and complimentary to the overall revitalization of the downtown community. It will be an important anchor institution committed to addressing the needs of a growing population of people who live and work downtown and for those that are underserved.  It will provide opportunities to achieve greater health and well-being, places to connect with others, and ways to give back and make a difference in the community.

Founded in 1860 as the seventh Y in North America, the YMCA of Greater Kansas City has over 157 years of experience in meeting the holistic needs of residents of all ages.  Since its inception, the Y has been more than simply a place to exercise.  The Y changes lives by helping children connect to caring adults through sports and youth development programs; by helping people young and old improve the quality of their lives by developing healthy habits around eating and physical activity; and by providing opportunities to meet new people and serve the community.
