Samuel U. Rogers Health Care Foundation Receives $250,000 Grant from the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City

Samuel U. Rogers Health Center Foundation was recently awarded a $250,000 grant from the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City to support expenses associated with the transfer of assets from Cabot Westside Medical and Dental Center (Cabot) and the integration of Cabot to the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center (SURHC).

Funding received from HCF for this project will be used to support salary and benefits for a Project Transition Manager, legal fees, billing system set-up, information technology and network upgrades, in addition to software costs for transitioning Cabot patients and data to SURHC and Cabot’s licensing costs to use NextGen and QSI Dental, SURHC’s electronic health record and dental software.

Transferring Cabot to SURHC will not only transform Cabot into a stronger, more fiscally stable provider, but will also ensure that linguistically and culturally accessible medical and dental services continue uninterrupted for over 7,000 patients whose primary language is Spanish. With support from the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, SURHCF can sustain and grow the work and services of Cabot Westside Medical and Dental Center, which has for many decades been the one clinic in the Kansas City metropolitan area that has specialized in serving the Latino community.  If Cabot closes, which is very likely without SURHC, Kansas City will not only lose the capacity to provide health care to over 7,000 patients, the safety net will be overrun with patients, creating long wait times to get appointments and overwhelm an already overwhelmed safety-net system. Cabot patients will confront a lack of access that will result from language, culture, and poverty barriers if they attempt to pursue services elsewhere. These barriers to care are significant and impede the capability of most providers to deliver service to this community. SURHC’s experience, skills, language and cultural expertise coupled with our commitment to overcoming these barriers make it the appropriate provider of health care for the Latino community.

Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center serves all patients regardless of inability to pay.  Discounts for essential services are offered based on family size and income.  Families come in all shapes and sizes, and at Rodgers Health, every family matters to us. We’re committed to all cultures and all backgrounds, delivering world-class health care with universal compassion.
