Session Description:

Grant budgets seem like they should be so simple, just ask for what you need, right? Instead, they can be very complex with unique terms and phrases all their own. This training will start at the very beginning with basic terms and concepts then move into the issues that make grant budget challenging for the proposal writer, program staff, finance staff, and executive leadership.

Arm yourself with the knowledge of best practices learned from working with hundreds of organizations over the last fifteen years including grassroots organizations with budgets of less than $50,000 to complex organizations like hospitals, universities, and school districts with budgets in the millions.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Basic concepts of budgets and standard budget terminology.
  • How to identify and craft accurate budgets
  • How to handle challenging budget categories.
  • How to identify and craft accurate budgets.

Length: 60 minutes

GPCI Competencies and Skills: 4.8, 4.9, 4.10, 6.6

Grants 101 Training Series

Grants are about so much more than just grant writing. This series of grant trainings will guide you through 1) researching opportunities, 2) building relationships with funders, 3) designing high quality programs, 4) organizational readiness, 5) writing grant proposals, and 6) managing grants. In addition, to guide your continued learning, we have a training to help you decide where you want to grow next based on the career path options available to you.

These sessions are designed to give basic knowledge to a nonprofit professional who is just starting to learn about grants or who has had no formal training in grants. This program breaks the concepts down into manageable pieces that can be learned over time.

If you would like to arrange a custom scheduled training for your organization, please email us to speak to one of our Training staff. If you would like information about all our upcoming trainings, please subscribe to our monthly Training Newsletter!
