Have you ever been uncomfortable applying to a foundation which didn’t seem to really match your organization’s profile? Many nonprofit professionals are pressured into writing to foundations who don’t match their giving history. This may be because someone knows someone on the board or because you are under pressure to find the dollars somewhere – anywhere. This session will provide information on when those techniques are a problem and when they just feel uncomfortable. Hint: if you are uncomfortable, there is probably a reason! In addition, there are times that others around you have different ethical guidelines than you.

What you will learn:

  • When applying to foundations to whom you are not well aligned is a problem
  • How connections between nonprofits and funders can give the appearance of a conflict
  • The difference between conflict of interest and the appearance of conflict of interest

The trainers for these sessions are all credentialed grant professionals (GPCs) who agree to adhere to the Grant Professionals Association (GPA) Code of Ethics and are GPA Approved Trainers. All of the trainings in this series align with the Grant Professionals Certification Institute’s competencies and skills

GPCI Competencies and Skills:1.7, 2.8, 6.1, 6.4

Ethics Training Series

So often ethics about grants are focused on the mismanagement of grant funding which gets flashy headlines in the news. But ethics are important throughout the full grant lifecycle from research to reporting. Each training will present information tied to grant and development codes of conduct, standard grant best practices, and case studies and will facilitate a question and answer session for each core topic.

If you would like to arrange a custom scheduled training for your organization, please email us to speak to one of our Training staff. If you would like information about all our upcoming trainings, please subscribe to our monthly Training Newsletter!
