Liberty Community Chorus Receives $500 Grant from the Martha Lee Cain Tranby Music Enrichment Fund

Liberty Community Chorus was recently awarded a $500.00 grant from the Martha Lee Cain Tranby Music Enrichment Fund to support its spring 2019 and fall 2019 performances.

The Chorus will present “Passion and Splendor” at the Community of Christ Temple in Independence, Missouri.  This concert will cap off the celebration of the Chorus’s 15th anniversary with a world premiere commission for chorus and organ from internationally known Norwegian composer Kim Arnesen.  Internationally renowned organist Jan Kraybill will lend her talents to several pieces on the program.  Then, the Chorus will combine forces with the Liberty Symphony Orchestra to provide a large-scale Christmas concert for Liberty and Kansas City metropolitan area audiences.  Featured works will include pieces by British composer John Rutter, American composer Mack Wilberg, and selections from Handel’s Messiah.  The concert will likely showcase The Many Moods of Christmas by the great American composer Robert Shaw, whom the Chorus’s director, Bryan Taylor, sang with for multiple years as a member of his Festival Singers ensemble.

The Liberty community is in need of a home-grown, large-scale musical performance to gather around. Liberty is fortunate to have both a successful orchestra and chorus organizations in the community.  The proposed combined Christmas concert will offer the community a major musical event that showcases local talent and occurs right here at home.

The Liberty Community Chorus was created to give choral singers the opportunity to continue practicing their craft throughout their adult years. No such opportunity was available in Liberty, Missouri before the Chorus’s inception. The Chorus has now provided the Kansas City Northland with 15 years of meaningful artistic experiences.
