Developing Potential, Inc. Receives $335,963 Grant from eitas

Developing Potential, Inc. (DPI) recently received a grant for $335,963 from eitas to support day services for adults with developmental disabilities in Jackson County.

DPI’s mission is to provide quality day habilitation services to adults with developmental disabilities, and to support those individuals to reach their potential and achieve a dignified, adult lifestyle. DPI provides a Day Services program that includes both on-site activities and community access focused off-site activities.

Day Services (onsite): DPI will use funding to provide onsite and offsite Day Services to improve individuals’ abilities to live, work, and develop relationships in their communities.  These services support individuals in areas such as health and physical fitness, spirituality and well-being, building relationships, and personal expression through creative means. Individuals choose how and if they want to participate to develop skills in areas such as activities of daily living, verbal and nonverbal communication, hygiene, physical wellness, household maintenance, cognition, and social skills. Building these skills allows participants to live with greater independence and adult dignity.

Day Services (offsite): These off-site services provide community access for program participants. Individuals practice and refine skills learned during onsite activities in community settings. The program gives participants opportunities to participate in daily activities of their choosing outside DPI and their homes, and to develop meaningful relationships with people in the community. Through these activities, participants gain confidence and self-esteem as they contribute to their community as full participating members. Activities include volunteering, recreation, and skills development.

Developing Potential, Inc. (DPI) supports individuals with developmental disabilities to achieve their best selves, helping these individuals experience a greater level of independence, self-realization, and inclusion in their community. DPI works with individuals to create personal development plans emphasizing participants’ own personal choices for the development of skills such as activities of daily living, self-advocacy, personal relationships, and improving and maintaining physical health and emotional well-being.
